ANNOUNCEMENT
We wish to inform our customers that the Internet serviceis currently experiencing a degradation in performance caused by several outages at some of theinternational links. This is attributed to the Richter 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck off the southern coast of Taiwan at 12.07 a.m. on 27th December 2006, whichcaused theAPCN2 (Asia Pacific Cable Network 2) submarine cable fault between Shantou, China and Tanshui, Taiwan and between Lantau, Hong Kong and Chongming, China.
This has caused outages at several TM Net international transit and peering links, mainly to the said countries. As a result,Internet users in Malaysia and other parts of Asia may be experiencing some delay when assessing content and websites hosted outside of Malaysia, especially in U.S., Japan, China, Taiwan,Korea and Europe.TM Net has taken immediate action to divert traffic through other back-up links to reduce the traffic congestion.
The international providers are carrying out immediate restoration worksto rectify the problem. We will be making further announcements when the service has resumed.
TM Net Sdn Bhd apologizes for any inconvenience caused whilst at the same time, we would like to assure you that we are doing all that is necessary in order to restore the service as soon as possible.

The recent earthquake in Taiwan (and its related aftershock effects) has
caused major outages of international connectivity due to multiple submarine
cable failures in the affected areas. JARING international links are also
affected since 3:46 am this morning (27 Dec 2006).
We are working very closely with our international links providers to
restore the connectivity as quickly as possible. However, at this time, we
do not have any specific restoration timeframe. We will keep our
subscribers updated as soon as we get any new development.

Taiwan quake kills two, undersea cables damaged
TAIPEI, Dec 27 (Reuters) - Two people were killed and 42 injured when three buildings collapsed in earthquakes that shook southern Taiwan, authorities said on Wednesday.
The two dead were caught in the collapse of a furniture factory in the southern city of Hengchun, where eight people, including four children, were trapped for a time, the National Fire Agency said in a statement.
While a tsunami warning came to nothing, the quake damaged at least six undersea telecommunication cables, affecting users in Taiwan and South Korea, and was felt in China and Hong Kong.
The biggest quake, measured by Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau at magnitude 6.7 and at magnitude 7.1 by the U.S. Geological Survey, struck off the island's southern coast at 8:26 p.m. (1226 GMT) on Tuesday -- the second anniversary of a massive earthquake and tsunami that left more than 230,000 people in Asia either dead or missing.
Further quakes through the evening in Taiwan were measured at up to magnitude 7.0 by the U.S. agency.
KT Corp. <030200.KS>, South Korea's top fixed-line and broadband service provider, said in a statement that some of its international lines were affected by the quake.
"(Six) submarine cables are not working due to the earthquake near Taiwan. We are making best efforts to restore the service in a speedy manner," the company said in a statement to Reuters.
An official from Chunghwa Telecom <2412.TW>, Taiwan's largest telecoms operator, said none of its lines were disrupted but some businesses reported problems on Wednesday morning. (Additional reporting by Rhee So-eui in Seoul)

中国电信集团公关处人士于9:00证实，26日晚台湾地区的地震影响到内地出口光缆，造成国内访问国外网站故障。此外，北京网通也证实，这是由于台湾地震导致海底光缆出现问题所致。
国内许多网站也无法从海外浏览，部分网站可以浏览，但速度极慢。
台湾地震导致海底光缆受损 出国网络一度中断
由于台湾地震影响，所有经过太平洋的海底光缆都受到不同程度的损坏，以至于内地访问国外的网站会特别慢，甚至会出现打不开的情况。
12月27日上午，全国各地很多网友反映，连接国外网站的速度特别慢。中国电信和中国网通随即向网易科技证实，南海海域的地震导致附近国际和地区的通信受到严重影响。目前网通和电信均在实施抢修，以及组织其他可以使用的卫星通信等资源。
电信和网通证实地震导致海底光缆受损
据我国地震台网测定，北京时间12月26日20时26分和34分，在南海海域发生7.2、6.7级地震。
中国电信证实，受强烈地震影响，中美海缆、亚太1号、亚太2号海缆、FLAG海缆、亚欧海缆、FNAL海缆等多条国际海底通信光缆发生中断，中断点在台湾以南15公里的海域，造成附近国家和地区的国际和地区性通信受到严重影响。
电信透露，中国大陆至台湾地区、美国、欧洲等方向国际港澳台通信线路受此影响亦大量中断，国际港澳台互联网访问质量受到严重影响，国际港澳台话音和专线业务也受到一定影响。
中国网通市场部相关人士证实， 由于地震影响，所有经过太平洋的海底光缆都受到不同程度的损坏。“所有的相关负责人都已经扑上去解决这个问题了”，网通表示，后方的人员尚不清楚详细的情况。
抢修困难较大，影响还将持续
“受余震影响，抢修工作遇到较大困难，加之海缆施工具有一定难度，预计影响还将持续一段时间，”中国电信相关人士称。
“跨太平洋高速路”美国接入点在俄勒冈州那多那海滩，中国大陆接入点在青岛和上海崇明岛，中间还有伸向韩国巨济市和中国台湾的分支线路。
为将将影响降到最小程度，中国电信表示，目前正在积极联系境外合作运营商、海缆管理组织和卫星组织，争取利用一切可用资源，疏通业务。
第二条中国直通光缆将开建
目前，中国内地与美国之间的大部分网络流量，必须经由中国香港或日本中转。中国与美国之间，也仅有一条海底海底光缆，该光缆于1999年底投入使用，由于需要绕道经过日本，速度上大受影响，已不能适应两国间互联网及电话的跨洋传输量。
本月中旬，包括中国电信、中国网通、中国联通等中美韩六大电信运营商已经达成协议，共同建立一条连接中美的首个兆兆级海底光缆系统——跨太平洋直达光缆系统（简称TPE）。
这条名为“跨太平洋高速”的海底光缆长达1.12万公里，耗资约5亿美元，，是现有的中美海底光缆容量的60多倍，将在奥运会前夕启用。
